/Vancouver Island Wood Network
The Vancouver Island Wood Network (VIWN) is a community-driven initiative dedicated to uniting the diverse wood-based professionals across Vancouver Island. From artisans and designers to manufacturers and innovators, VIWN fosters connections that support collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the advancement of wood-based industries in the region.
As an extension of Vancouver’s growing network, VIWN was created to broaden our BC-wide community and connect Island-based practitioners to a larger provincial conversation around wood innovation. Over the past few years, VIWN has hosted a range of gatherings—from shop and studio tours to brewery meetups and educational sessions. These events offer opportunities for professionals to engage, learn, and contribute to the evolving landscape of wood-based design, manufacturing, and construction on the Island.
From craftspeople and small manufacturers to educators and developers, VIWN brings together people working across the Island’s wood ecosystem to explore shared challenges and surface new ideas. By spotlighting local expertise and creating space for cross-sector dialogue, the network helps strengthen community connections while amplifying creative approaches to wood use.
Looking ahead, VIWN is focused on exploring the future of wood-based industries—emphasizing sustainable practices, emerging technologies, and the integration of traditional craftsmanship with modern methodologies. Through regular events and an open, collaborative environment, VIWN aims to support a more connected, resilient, and forward-thinking wood culture across Vancouver Island.

Connecting people to inspire innovation in wood since 2012.
TWIG operates on the unceded territories of the Indigenous Peoples who have lived in deep relationship with the lands and forests we now call British Columbia since time immemorial. We recognize and honour the enduring stewardship, knowledge, and cultures of these Nations—whose care over generations shaped the very forests that gave rise to BC’s forestry industry. We also acknowledge the devastating impacts of colonization, including the near-erasure of many old-growth ecosystems and the displacement of Indigenous communities and cultural practices connected to these ancient forests.
As we work to shape the future of BC’s forest products industry, we are committed to pathways that integrate Indigenous perspectives, support cultural resurgence, and foster a renewed relationship to land, materials, and community—one grounded in respect, regeneration, and transformative change.
